チェックアウトするべくロビーに降りたらLiu先生、Xi先生が待ち構えていた。お別れの挨拶と今後の交流についての相談だった。同済大学のエンブレムを感謝の印にいただいた。ありがとう来年も来ます。日本にも来てください待ってます。さようなら。When I went down to the lobby to check out, Professor Liu and Professor Xi were waiting for me.They said their farewells and we discussed future exchanges. He gave me the Tongji University emblem as a token of their appreciation. Thank you. I'll come again next year. Please come to Japan too. I'll be waiting for you. Goodbye.

同済大学のレクチャー終えて夜は隈ジムの寺崎さん、日建の長谷川さんたちと火鍋を頂く。濃密な3日間でした。After the lecture at Tongji University, I had hotpot with Mr. Terasaki from Kuma office and Mr. Hasegawa from Nikken. It was a very busy three days.

再来週北海道行って17日北大でお話しします。学内限定だけど素敵なポスター作ってくれたので作った学生さんに敬意を表してお見せします。I'll be going to Hokkaido next week and speaking at Hokkaido University on the 17th. I'll be posting this poster in honor of the students who made it, though it's only for students on campus to attend.

ディビッド・スチュワートのお別れ会の後用事があり一人教会を後にしたらスチュワートさんが心に蘇ってきて涙が溢れた。 彼が四十歳の時に指導を受けた。卒論を3回真っ赤に直してくれる先生は世界にいるだろうか？僕の建築を一番数多く（10個以上）見てくれたのは彼である。僕の三つの作品集全てに批評を書いてくれた。だから書いてあることは彼の実感だと思う。篠原一男の本を書いているのでインタビューしたいと言ったらすぐに拙宅に来てくれた。インタビューにならなかったけれど、最後にいった言葉が忘れられない。「坂牛は篠原一男の最後の弟子だから、だからこそきちんと書かないといけない」英語は正確に覚えてないけれどとても厳しかった。メールの英語の言葉遣いも直す人だった。 最後まで先生だった。 After David Stewart's farewell party, I had to attend to some business and left the church alone. Stewart came back to my mind, and tears welled up. He was my teacher when he was 40. Is there any other teacher in the world who would correct my graduation thesis three times? He is the one who has looked at most of my architecture (more than 10 pieces). He wrote critiques of all three of my collections of works. So I think what he writes is what he felt. When I said I was writing a book about Shinohara Kazuo and wanted to interview him, he came to my house right away. Although it didn't turn out to be an interview, I will never forget the last thing he said. "Sakaushi is Shinohara Kazuo's last disciple, so that's why I have to write carefully." I don't remember the exact English, but he was very strict. He would even correct my English in emails. He was my teacher until the end.

恩師ディビッド•スチュワートのお別れ会が清家清が設計した教会で執り行われた。牧師が「他界した人のことはいつか皆の記憶から消えるが建築家は建築を残せる。先生は生徒を残せる」と言っていた。恩師のことは忘れない。A farewell party for our mentor David Stewart was held at a church designed by Seike Kiyoshi. The pastor said, "Those who have passed away will eventually disappear from everyone's memories, but architects can leave architecture. Teachers can leave students." I will never forget about my teacher.

スペイン語で我輩は猫であるはSoy un gato主語はない。僕は主語をよく省略する。毎日200字文書書いているからか？スペイン語は動詞の活用で主語は分かるが日本語は分からない。気をつけないと意図が伝わらない。 In Spanish, "I am a cat" is "Soy un gato" (there is no subject). I often omit the subject. Maybe it's because I write 200-character documents every day? In Spanish, you can understand the subject by conjugating the verb, but in Japanese, I can't. If you're not careful, your intention won't be conveyed.

東京駅丸善には大分前から僕の本の棚がある。ありがたい。Mis libros llevan bastante tiempo en un estante de Maruzen, en la estación de Tokio. Estoy agradecido por ello.

来週上海で２箇所、再来週北海道で3箇所レクチャーをします。全部違う話です。同じ話しは自分が飽きると言うのが大きな理由。何が人に訴えるかを知りたいと言うのがもう一つの理由。I will be giving lectures at two locations in Shanghai next week, and three locations in Hokkaido the week after. They will all be about different topics. The main reason is that I get bored of giving the same talk. The other reason is that I want to know what appeals to people.

来週上海に行って同済大学でお話しして来ます。2012年にもしましたが、その時は不幸な年で反日感情が高まり、急遽オフィシャルなレクチャーをやめてこっそりとゼミみたいなレクチャーをしました。I'm going to Shanghai next week to give a talk at Tongji University. I also gave a talk in 2012, but that was an unfortunate year with high anti-Japanese sentiment, so I had to stop giving an official lecture and instead give a secret seminar-like lecture.

未だゲラとは言えないけど2年間4人で作ってきたレイアウト。ずしっと4キロくらいありそう。It's not yet a galley proof, but it's a layout that we've created for two years by four. It seems to weigh about 4 kilos.
