Now it's time to start worrying about packing for the trip home. Naturally, I arrived just within the weight limit, and I sent my books separately, giving them all away. The problem is how to get back the books I received here, as well as the three-volume history of Chilean architecture that I bought today. I'd like to say I could just send them by post, but the postal service here is unreliable. That said, DHL and FedEx are quite expensive (it's fine for documents, but they're not services that will send books weighing nearly 10kg). So I'm going to throw away one of my two pairs of shoes, as they've worn out. I'm also going to throw away the tracksuit I wear every morning for my walks. I'm also going to throw away any other underwear and socks I don't need. I'm going to wear my coat and sweater as much as possible when I go home (it's winter in Tokyo after all). Will this work? I don't have a scale, so it's hard to say. If I weigh over 23kg at the airport, it's going to be a pain...
