モダニズムには降って湧いたように見えてそうでも無い。ル・コルビジュエには新古典主義があり、丹下、篠原には日本の伝統がある。アラベナやスミルハンには何があるのか？インカの精緻な建築に繋がっているのか。今回の訪南米で見極めたいことはチリに限らず、パラグアイ、ウルグアイ、アルゼンチンなどの現代建築と過去とのつながりだ。残念ながら原稿に追われて予習できてない。でもそんなこと言ってられない。 Modernism may seem like it just came out of nowhere, but that's not the case. Le Corbusier had neoclassicism, and Tange and Shinohara had Japanese traditions. What is it about Aravena and Smilján? Is it connected to the exquisite architecture of the Incas? What I want to determine on this visit to South America is the connection between contemporary architecture and the past, not just in Chile, but also in Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, and other countries. Unfortunately, I've been so busy with my manuscript that I haven't had time to do any preparation. My manuscript for Japan is important, but on the plane I've renewed my resolve to spend time on things that can only be done here.
